Are you in touch
with your inner hillbilly?
An open bluegrass jam for acoustic string instruments, Sundays from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.
Hosted by Doug Fletcher.
3619 E. Indian School Rd./Phoenix/602-840-5282
What we're about...

Come to play, come to listen.  We're hoping to bring together some friendly and talented people each week to make a little noise for a couple of hours -- and if we're really lucky, some of it might even sound like music!

Brush up on some of your old bluegrass, country and folk tunes,  learn some new ones if you have the time, and let's see if we can't raise your blood pressure a little with some serious bluegrass picking.

If you want to hear a good selection of old and new bluegrass music, give a listen to bluegrasscountry.org

We'll be updating this page on a regular basis, so be sure to check back once in a while for the latest news on what we're planning.

What's happening now...

Summer is here and there's not much we can do about it except try to stay cool and relaxed, I suppose.  We'll be having 5 Sundays in July so that should give you plenty of chances to come out and do a little picking with us.

Mama Java's New Americana Cafe has gotten underway, and we've had two excellent shows so far.  The idea is to present two 'rootsy' type musical acts each Thursday night, with an emphasis on variety and quality.  If this sounds like the kind of entertainment that would interest you, come on out on Thursday nights, 7-10 pm, or see the website at New Americana Cafe.

Since starting in August 2004, the jam has begun to take on a life of its own. We've got musicians coming from all over the valley each week, as well as a growing contingent there to just relax and listen to the music. Why not give it a try sometime, I think you'll like it.

We have room for musicians of all abilities -- if you're a hot picker or great singer, you'll get plenty of chances for breaks and singing. If you're a beginning or intermediate player, you'll get a chance to play in a group, and also watch some good musicians up close. A little direct observation can save you a lot of wasted time trying to learn things on your own, especially in a musical field like bluegrass, which can have its own odd ways of doing things.

EMAIL LIST:  If you would like to receive a monthly email about the jam, please send me an email to tell me so at bluegrassriver@gmail.com. It will be short, sweet, and private.
Jam session dates forJune : 4, 11, 18 and 25.  For July:  2, 9, 16, 23 and 30.
